Welcome to U & C’s Eurovision blog!

As you probably already know, we are fans of Eurovision. And if you somehow haven’t yet had the privilege to hear one or both of us go off about just how amazing it is, you are about to now.

And so we decided it would be really fun to officially organize and structure our experience through the Eurovision season so that all of our lovely friends can follow along. The end goal is twofold: firstly, so that everyone who follows along will be fully up-to-date and prepared to to watch the Eurovision Song Contest this May; secondly, so that you will all fall in love with the beauty, joy, and extravaganza that is Eurovision. We will do our best to provide the backstory and updates, but the rest is up to you!

So, what is Eurovision?

While we’ve been looking for a succinct way to explain the Eurovision Song Contest, we’ve come across a ton of accurate, witty, and beautiful explanations. Many people have tried to explain it, from American late night talk show hosts John Oliver and Stephen Colbert, to ABC News, to Netflix Film Club (using clips from the Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga).

It should come as no surprise, however, that the best recap of Eurovision we could find comes from the song contest itself, in a dazzling opening act that answers all of your questions.

It’s a multi-national competition, with a collaborative mission
So much like the Olympics in a way…
Sure it’s rather less athletic, though just as energetic!
More colorful – and, what’s the word? …Theatrical?
