Poland: “The Tower” – LUNA

Poland chose LUNA and her song “The Tower” through an internal selection process. [Side note: It was probably a good idea for them to abandon their national final in favor of internal selection this year after the controversy last year of some highly questionable voting changes that resulted in one of the most iconic memes last season (Bejba) and the biggest snub with Jann’s “Gladiator.”] LUNA will be performing 6th in the first semifinal.

This song is fine, it’s just an unremarkable female pop ballad in a season with many more remarkable songs in that genre. So it’s distinctly middle of the pack. Once again, we only have the music video to go off of for her stage presence and performance ability. The video has some classic Eurovision wtf qualities (what are the backup dancers wearing???), while also managing to be somewhat unremarkable. It has not elevated or negatively impacted our experience of the song (but if you have strong opinions on toilet paper dresses or realistic depictions of chess games, be warned).

Not sure LUNA knows how play chess
Eurovision costume designing: 10/10

We will not really know how this stacks up to other entries until the dress rehearsals, but LUNA will have to bring her A-game for her to nab a spot in the final.
