San Marino: “11:11” – Megara

The small city state of San Marino chose Spanish act Megara, and their song “11:11” through their national final Una Voce per San Marino. Megara will perform 10th (really EBU not 11th?) in the second semifinal.

Megara was previously a contestant on Spain’s national final, Benidorm Fest, in 2023, with their song “Arcadia.” A close reading of this year’s lyrics seems to be a middle finger to losing that national final last year:

M-E-L-A-P-E-L-A
Que si tu no me quieres
Otra gente me querrá

¿Piensas que puedes abatirme?
Prendimos Benidorm

I-D-G-A-F
Because if you don’t want me
Other people will

You think you can drag me down?
We lit up Benidorm

Even though neither of us are huge fans of rock or metal, we do enjoy the wackiness that Megara brings to the stage. (Fursuit puppets that take their skin off to reveal skeletons?!) It is clear that this is a group that cares about the full performance experience. And given the talent pool San Marino often seems to be pulling from, this is the best we could expect from them.

While we preferred “Arcadia” last year, we are glad they get a chance to bring their pink and black color scheme, skull make-up, and rocker attitude to party on the Eurovision stage.
