Through their national final, Eesti Laul, Estonia selected 5miinust & Puuluup to represent them with the song “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi” and yes, that is the name of the song. 5miinust & Puuluup will perform 13th in the second semifinal.
Their national final performance is peak Eurovision. You have older men with unusual instruments, a quirky dance seemingly done by non-dancers, a surprise bass vocalist, and we have no idea what is going on except that it is an absolute party on stage.
The song title “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi” roughly translates to “we (really) don’t know anything about (these) drugs.” Though we are not totally sure we believe them, because it seems an awful lot like they do know something about these drugs 🧐
The lyrics, sung entirely in Estonian, start out innocently enough (perhaps), but quickly devolve into (drug-induced?) fantastical musings and defenses, all with that signature “Eurovision WTF” quality that is *chef’s kiss* 👌.
I don’t know drugs, I know soda and cider
Couldn’t tell the difference between vitamins and speed
…
Russulas and champignons, where are your threads?
You turn on my body like a kitchen stove
Ducklings are so small, but poppies are so tall
…
Intoxicating substances we avoid cause we’re not rich
In the backroom of the hut, there are only IPAs on the table
And the sunglasses are for eye pupils, well, actually for the laughs obviously
You can see right through them if you’ve made it to the front row
While this song might not be as catchy as some of the other ones this year, the live performance and fun energy (that clearly has nothing to do with drugs) makes this entry stand out. In many ways it is reminiscent of Moldova’s 2022 entry, “Trenulețul” by Zdob şi Zdub, which smashed predictions and odds by getting more than 250 televote points in the final after a surprise qualification. Estonia’s 5miinust & Puuluup will absolutely bring the party to the stage and it will be amazing to watch them bring down the arena in Malmö.
