4. Lithuania: “Luktelk” – Silvester Belt

Revealing #4 of our top 10 songs this year!

At number 4, we have Lithuania. Through the Eurovizija.LT national final, Lithuania chose Silvester Belt and his song “Luktelk.” Silvester Belt will be performing 3rd in the first semi final.

WARNING: This music video contains flashing strobe lights.

One of our favorite styles of performance in Eurovision is when a catchy song is sung well with bold yet simple staging that effectively showcases a fully cohesive performance. “Luktelk” does just that. With solid blue, red, and black backgrounds and monochrome graphics, the colors are striking and vivid.

Similarly, Silvester Belt again shows that you do not need to have a full 3 minutes of intense choreography or be a professional dancer to effectively incorporate dance moves into the performance. He flawlessly pulls off the shoulder bounces, head turns, punches, and kick-jumps that make up the choreography. Having these moves line up perfectly with the percussion accentuated beat is very satisfying to watch (and surprisingly challenging to replicate from home).

“Luktelk” translates to “wait” or “hold up.” Sung entirely in Lithuanian, the lyrics express trying to dance through the feeling of being stuck and barely living. Like the lyrics, the song has a laid back and chill vibe that is an interesting pairing with the driving beat and percussion. It’s another one of those combinations that makes our brains go brr.

Silvester Belt has been performing very consistently and with an enviable feeling of ease on stage. Though this may be because he has been preparing for this moment from the young age of 12 when he competed in the Lithuanian national selection for Junior Eurovision, with the song “Pi-Pa-Po.” We are glad that he finally gets his chance to shine 14 years later, and we hope to see him in the final.
