Slovenia chose Klemen’s song “How Much Time Do We Have Left” through their one night only national final with their strange superfinal voting system that prevented people from voting for most of the entries. Klemen will perform 3rd in the first semifinal.
This very sad generic ballad was originally at the absolute bottom of our rankings, but we cannot deny the song’s emotion and it has continued to grow on us. The melody is memorable and the backstory adds emotional weight that propels this song higher than our original rankings.
A distinctly different direction than the lighthearted parody songs Klemen was previously known for, “How Much Time Do We Have Left” was written in the wake of his wife’s cancer diagnosis documenting the emotional turmoil they went through. The diagnosis turned his life upside down, which they chose to visually represent on stage in the not so subtle approach of having Klemen hang upside down (our 3rd entry in the hanging from a ceiling category).

This entry also opted for the strangely common, vaguely uncomfortable Eurovision lyric video that includes LARGE Arial Bold font combined with either extended eye contact or partial nudity – or, in the unfortunate case of Australia last year, both.

Why is this a trend?
