Through a confusing and lackluster national final, Germany chose “Baller” by Austrian sibling duo Abor and Tynna. As part of the big five, Germany is guaranteed a spot in the final with Abor and Tynna.
This is the first time Germany has sent a song with German since 2007 and fully in German since 1998. If we had a nickel for every time in 2025 that a country sent an entry to Eurovision performed in their national language by artists of a different nationality for the first time in more than 20 years, we would have 2 nickels.

“Baller” is a cool and catchy song, however it does not really feel ~Eurovision~ with its vibey verses and techno choruses. However, this does make it stand out from other songs competing this year. And we do get “Ich Ball-la-la-la-la-la-er” stuck in our heads. The song structure does seem challenging to effectively perform live, so hopefully the staging will help elevate the song. And it is pretty baller to smash a cello on stage.

As much as it is cool that the song is in German, it is too bad we didn’t get “Knightclub” which had a metal band singing in full armour about partying at the knightclub. It was catchy, it was camp, and it was absolutely tanked in the national final format. The national final format did however ensure that the unfortunate earworm “If Jesus Saw What We Did Last Night” didn’t make it past the semifinal.
Overall, “Baller” will add some nice variety to the final even if we are not convinced that the Eurovision stage is the right place for this song.
