Malta is sending Miriana Conte and her song now known as “Serving” to Eurovision 2025. After winning Malta’s national final, Miriana will be performing 9th in the second semifinal.
Lederhosen, costume changes, yoga balls, cheeky lyrics… What more can you ask for in a Eurovision entry?
Originally submitted as the song “Kant,” supposedly referring to the Maltese word for singing, Malta had to revise their song given the closeness in sound to the C-word in English. While being a very clever double entendre, “Serving Kant” was deemed not appropriate for a family show. The song is now titled “Serving,” and the lyrics have been adjusted to “Serving ahhh.” Though, given what we know from past editions, it is highly likely that the crowd in Basel will belt out the original lyric.
While Miriana’s performance at the Maltese national final is what won her the opportunity to perform at Eurovision, the music video that was released afterwards is almost even more impressive. Miriana and her team used the controversy around the song title and lyrics to add to the narrative of the video. That, and the superb costumes made of garbage bags, underwear, and a whole table of spaghetti and oysters, makes this music video one of the best this year.

This is an out-there entry which we do love to see in Eurovision. However, for U this song just ended up getting old really fast and it felt a little too cheeky for the sake of being cheeky. As one of the drag queens in the music video says (echoing Wendy Williams’ famous line), “She’s an icon. She’s a legend. And she is the moment.” This song feels like an incredible moment in this year’s Eurovision season – but will it become a defining one? We will have to see how this song and performance go over for first time viewers.

I hope they at least tried to argue that Kant refers to philosopher Immanuel Kant and/or Kantianism.
