18. Croatia: “Poison Cake” – Marko Bošnjak

Through their national final show, Dora, Croatia selected Marko Bošnjak (one of the multiple Markos competing) and his song “Poison Cake.” Marko will be performing 14th in the first semifinal.

Croatia would be hard pressed to follow the record-breaking fandom favorite 2024 entry “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna. But Marko Bošnjak does an admiral job with this dark and quirky song. The song has a fun switch-up between the eerily perky pre-chorus that sounds like a children’s rhyme and the dark and growly chorus.

We will have to see what the staging looks like on Eurovision’s stage, but the national final performance leaned into the evil culinary subject matter with black chef hats and a kitchen backdrop. This created fun and fresh visuals.

Marko has also been outspoken about the homophobic backlash and comments he has gotten after winning Dora as an openly gay contestant. We always love seeing out and proud artists of the queer community stand up to backlash and use their visible platform to address their challenges. So, major props to Marko.
