Belgium: “Before the Party’s Over” – Mustii

Mustii will represent Belgium with his song “Before the Party’s Over.” Belgium opted for an internal selection process rather than electing their song through the Eurosong national final they have been using the last few years. Mustii will be performing 12th in the second semi final.

The song does not immediately stand out, but it does reach a very impactful climax around the 2 minute mark. (So if you can get through it that far, it’s worth it…) The way the song builds throughout the three minutes could be very strong on stage, if Mustii can pull it off. We only have the music video to go off of for this performance, so we have yet to see Mustii’s live performance, stage presence, or vocal chops.

Like Australia, our opinions of this entry were influenced by the music video. For U, as much as she likes people covered in glitter, she was put off by Mustii’s frequent writhing, self-caressing and the general aesthetics of the music video. This genre of pop/rock also isn’t U’s preferred cup of tea, so eh~ not a favorite. For C, the video isn’t great, but it doesn’t give her the heebie-jeebies like Australia’s does. C is more upset that Mustii flagrantly plagiarized the surrounded-by-microphones look from Spain’s 2023 Benidorm contender, Agoney:

Left: Agoney performing “Arder” in Benidorm 2023. Right: Mustii’s music video for “Before the Party’s Over”

Who wore the microphones better? Agoney. The answer is Agoney.

  1. I really liked his outfit… while it was ON. Despite all the body glitter and weird background video clips, I am most concerned by the vocals. Will be interesting to see how Mustii’s Eurovision staging compares to the video!
