Through an internal selection process, Cyprus chose Silia Kapsis and her song “Liar.” Silia will be performing 1st in semifinal one – making this the opening performance of Eurovision 2024!

This entry has a number of parallels to Malta, another Mediterranean island nation that has a generic female dance-pop entry opening their respective semifinal. Between the two, we like “Liar” a bit more and have more faith in Cyprus being able to rock this performance given what they did for their 2nd place finish in 2018 with Eleni Foureira’s “Fuego.”

The music video is about standing up to take control of your own life, saying no to eating disorders, abusive relationships, and toxic social media. And apparently its choreographer is known for their work with Shakira. 💃

The song is classic girl pop female empowerment. It just does not bring anything we haven’t seen before. If Silia Kapsis can pull off a polished performance, “Liar” has the potential to be a crowd-pleaser and make it to the final.
